SUBJECT: Chemically-Biologically (CB) Hardening of Hospitals
PURPOSE: To provide information on the requirements for the CB
Protected Rigid Wall Shelter and the hardening of the ECU C-100.
1. The XM28 system has been approved for surge to provide CB
protection to TEMPER tents within DEPMEDS The XM28 does not
provide environmental control or protection for rigid wall ISO
shelters also used in DEPMEDS (surgeries, X-RAY, etc.).
2. Hardening of the ISO shelter will require the following:
a. Chemically resistant, decontaminable gaskets: $5,000 ea.
b. Hardened ECU C-IOC). $12,000 ea.
C:. M2C) Filter Blower: $2,OOC) ea.
3. Estimated Army requirements for hardening of the ISO shelters
are 92 systems at $19.OC,O ea totaling $1,748,OC)C). RDT&E required
to complete $5::.OK. Total $ required +or ISO hardening-
$2, 276, C)OC).
4. Hardening of the ISO shelter's will allow critical surgeries
to be performed in a chemically-biologically contaminated
environment if necessary and protect sensitive medical equipment
that cannot be decontaminated.
5. CB hardening of 254 ECU C-100's for the XM28 will cost
$2,688,OC)O ($12,0t)O ea).
6. Total funding requirements: $4,966,000
