              decontamination. Operatton Desert Storrn was executed umng a practical, @plffled
              nondoc@ method of rapid patient decontammatipm The @od was developed,
              approved, and implemented locally in theater.

              6.    DISCUSSION.- We were very fortunate that there was adequate titne before
              initiation of the ground cmpaign to train and imple;tent the far-f@rward rapid
              decontaminaton method. The need for learning and obtaining the matefials for even
              this siznple procedure put unneeded extra stram on a field medical system preparing
              for combat. Interim doctrinal information reaching the theater as recently as Fe@
              91 ignores the essential need for forward decon  , tion, and emphasizes reliance on
              presently unworkable concepts such as collective protection for aid stations and
              nonexistent chemical hardening for DEPMEDS hospitals.
