The committee concluded that the two Navy facilities, th
MED IAB, and US @ IID were able to meet current mission
requirements. Augmenting the NFL with personnel from th
and Air Force and the deployment of a contingency labora
(personnel and equipment) from CONUS to the theater were
discussed. The Army and Air Force would consider favora
request from the Navy for augmenting the NFL with person

f. (U) The deployment of a BW training team to thei
was discussed. The committee felt deploying or deployed
medical personnel must be trained in BW casualty
identification, treatment and prevention. Deployment woi
contingent on a request from CENTCOM.
g. (U) The committee considered the medical require
to preposition vaccine in-country. The committee decide<
vaccine should not be placed in country at this time.
h. (U) The committee felt that the deployment of
educational materials, training contingency teams, etc., d
be at the discretion of CENTCOM. In addition, informatic
concerning the theater laboratory support should also be
provided by CENTCOM to their organic medical units.
5. (U) RECOMMENDATIONS:
a. Laboratory. No additional special laborato2
assets should be deployed. Assets in place are adequate.
Personnel from the Army and Air Force should be used to
supplement the NFL, if requested. A laboratory continger
rsonnel and equipment) should be identified, trai
and ready to be deployed, if required.
b. Vaccine. BW vaccines should remain in CONE t
in-theater. There is no medical requirement for it at tb
present time.
c. Education Training Packaae. All health care
providers must be given sufficient -medical education to
recognize, treat, and prevent BW casualties. The educat
nackage should be printed as quickly as possible and
a7istributed to all medical personnel deploying (or deploy
theater.
d. BW Response Team. A BW triservice, iuulti-sk
response team, should be established and be prepared to c
an investigation in-theater of any suspected use of BW ag
