                             AFTER ACTION REPORT: MEETING OF

                          THE AD HOC WORKING GROUP FOR THE MEDICAL

                            DEFENSE AGAINST BIOLOGICAL WARFARE

                                     28 September 1990

            3. (U) PURPOSE: To assess the biological warfare (Bi           eat

            4.       SUMMARY OF MEETING:

                a. (U) The After Action Report from the Ad Hoc Wc
            Group's meeting of 14 September 1990 was reviewed and e
            with one correction. Paragraph 4(d) should read that t         c
            will purchase two new stainless steel fermentors, not t

                b.        USAMRDC reported the Joint Staff recommend       5
            to the SECDEF. The Joint Staff recommended not to vacc         at
            the present time. It was also recommended that product         E
            the anthrax vaccine be accelerated.

                c.        USAMRDC updated the committee on its recen
            activity. Efforts are underway to determine the necess
            requirements for a production surge. Two additional
            fermentors, when brought on-line, would triple the exis
            production capabilities; however, MRDC felt this was st        )t
            sufficient. options being explored include looking to
            on-line those facilities with existing FDA approval, as        as
            other facilities with fermentors that do not have currei

                d.        Laboratory Support. The Navy reported thai
