          SUBJECT: Minutes of the Desert Shield Biological Warfar(
          Hoc Working Group


          1. At 110900 April 1991, Subject group met in Room 640,
          Skyline 6, Falls Church, Virginia. The following indivi(
          were in attendance.

              LTC McKee - USAMRIID

          2.       The minutes of the 14 March 1991 meeting were rf      d
          approved as written.

          3.       Medical Intelligence Update. MAJ Lipnick updat(
          committee with intelligence information received from AFI      e
          previous day. None of the blood samples collected from
          soldiers yielded any positive findings. In addition, A.Fl
          still had no reports of any environmental samples being
          positive for BW contamination nor any physical evidence
          munitions or other materials containing BW agent. AFMIC
          currently revising their list of BW threat agents by coui

          4.       Availability of Vaccine.

              a. COL Bancroft reported BW vaccine production cont
          to be accelerated. A long range plan was drafted and br@
          to the JCS. The proposal called for the production of m@       s
          of doses of anthrax and botulinum vaccine and botulinum
          antitoxin. There was a discussion regarding vaccinating
          peacetime force against BW threat agents; however, a dec:
          was not reached.

           5. (U) Research Effort. The committee discussed the
          feasibility of conducting monkey challenge studies to evi

          LTC McKee felt this effort would not be productive and tl
          committee concurred. COL Tomlinson agreed to speak with        n
          this matter.
