d. Health status of the command:
(1) Immunization status: Initial supplies of immune
serum globulin (ISG) from Sclavo have been tested by the Food
and Drug Administration and found to be acceptable. Once Sclavo
ISG are received in Saudi Arabia CONUS installations will be
able to rebuild their stock levels with supplies manufactured by
Armour. See Encl 6: Memorandum, SGPS-PSP 7 Feb 91, Subject,.
Immune Serum Globulin.
(2) HIV Testing Requirements: Biennial HIV testing
requirements for Reserve Component Troop Program Units have been
waived. This waiver does not apply to those units and soldiers
required to be HIV tested for mobilization. See Encl 7t
Memorandum, FCMD 29 Jan 91, Subject, Request for waiver from
Biennial HIV Training Requirement.
(3) Disease and nonbattle injury:
(a) During Operation Desert Ste= mission
requirements have limited reporting of disease and nonbattle
injuries by Army medical treatment facilities in the field.
Theater Army disease and hospitalization data available through
patient administration channels continues to be closely
monitored by the OTSG Preventive Medicine Consultants Division.

(b) Other: Six patients have been evacuated to
the Walter Reed Army Medical Center for treatment of multiple
loishmanial lesions caused by Leishmania major. All six
patients have reported sand fly bites during October and
November 1990. See Encl 9: Memorandum, SGRD-UWF-B, 12 Feb 91,

3. CURRENT SITUATION: Deployed Preventive Medicine Field Units
at all levels have done a tremendous job in assisting the
command to maintain high levels of field sanitation. The
absence of major preventable disease outbreaks affecting
military operation has been a major accomplishment during
Operation Desert Storm. Preventive medicine personnel are now
involved in monitoring and maintaining the health of large
numbers of enemy prisoners of war. Planning is underway for the
preventive medicine aspects of redeployment of U.S. forces and
materiel back to CONUS.
