                 against S. flexned and S. sonnet. These vaccines consist of 0 potysaccharide from
                 the LPS of Shloella covalently coupled to carrier proteins. The final production of the
                 $. sonnel vaccine will by completed In early December, 19W and an IND will be
                 submitted by mid-December. Dr. Robbins wants to work with us and a CRDA is
                 being prepared. He has agreed to have challenge studies performed on vaccinated
                 volunteers if these studies were performed at Johns Hopkins University with whom we
                 have a contract for vaccine testing. This vaccine could be tested for safety,
                 immunogenicity, and efficacy by mld-January if we obtain expedited review from the
                 FDA. Manufacturing Is not a problem for our needs. The vaccine, # effective, could
                 be deployed to Desert Shield by February.

                 Recommendaton:

                        1) Rapid development of this vaccine for use In Desert Shield which entails
                 expedited review and signing of CRDA between USMRDC and the NIH, expedited
                 scientific, human use, and FDA reviews, supplement of contract to Johns Hopkins for
                 testing of this vaccine.
