INFORMATION PAPER
SU]3,JECT: Convulsant Antidote Nerve Agent (CANA)
1. Purpose. To provide information on the CANA.
2. Facts.
a. significant exposure to nerve agents will cause convulsions
and may result in brain damage.
b. The CANA is an autoinjector which contains an
anticonvulsant medication which if given immediately or before the
onset of convulsions can mitigate or prevent associated brain
damage.
c. The basis of issue for the CANA is one per soldier.
d. The CANA is administered only by buddy aid or by the
soldier's buddy. The soldier will not self administer the CANA
because if he/she is conscious and is aware of what is happening,
the soldier has not been severely exposed to nerve agents. The
CANA is administered after the third NAAK is administered to the
soldier by his/her buddy.
