           SUBJECT: Briefing on pyridostigmine for MG Elam, Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics

           1. Dr. Foster in my office was called to a meeting (I 6 Aug 90 - 1400hrs) of Tri-service General Officees Comm' ,Uee
           on CB Materiel Log@ics, chaired by MG Elam and supporting Operation Desert Shield.

              a. He was asked for technical, medical use, operational, and logistics Jnforrnalion on the pyridostigmine
           product available to the Tri-services.

              b. He differed comment to OTSG and indicated that he would start a coordination effort to get the appropriate
           person to brief the group.

           2. COL Bob Mashburn, Executive Officer of DGSLOG Action Group on Chemical and Biological Materiel,
           Indicated the following requirements to Dr. Foster In reference to the subject briefing.

              a. All information should be the Tri-service position.

              b. Briefing is scheduled for Thursday 23 August in the afternoon. Briefing should be geared to 5 m;nutes but
           have backup charts ava;lab!e. The briefing hardcopy should be transmitted to COL Mashburrfs off ice by noon
           Wednesday 22 August. No pre-briefings are required by the Logistics folks.

              C. Three general topics should be covered.

                       What is pyridostigmine, how does ft work, what are the clinical uses, abuse potential etc?

ional scenario for pyddo use, who makes decision to use ft,
           what are the differences in use among operating elements and among services?

                    - What is the current status of logistics of pyridosfigmino, what is the production base, what Is normal
           production capacity & surge capacfty. are there off-shore sources and their capability, what is the current inventory
           (millary wholesale, military retail. commercial, where are the stocks at this moment, how are the stocks issued from
           storage through to the soldier etc?

           3. COL Mashburn indicated that he has spoken with you. This memorandum provides you with information from
           this office's contacts in order that you have a complete story with regard lo the subject briefing.
