                  d. Liquid contamination picked up from the ground by
troops can be tracked into the aircraft. Depending upon its
volatility, it will then create a vapor concentration within the
            aircraft.

                  e. Vapor concentration resulting from contamination on
the ground decrease as an aircraft gains altitude. It is
therefore likely that after departing the contaminated area, the
helicopter will pass through contamination-free area enroute.
If doors are open after leaving the contaminated area, the clean
air will accelerate the self-decontamination process.

            4. EQUIP@MENT FOR NBC OPERATIONS.

In addition to the individual protective equipment for each
crewmen, the following should be provided with each aircraft for
            chemical operations.

                  a. Suit, Contamination-Avoidance, Liquid-Protective -
The SCALP, a disposable garment for short-term skin protection,
should be available for each crew member who may come in contact
            with contaminated patients.

                  b. Chemical Agent Monitor (CAM) - Each aircraft should
be equipped with a CAM. The crew chief will be the designated
operator of the CAM. Funnel attachments (3 each) and spare
batteries will be with each CAM.

                  C. M-8 Detector Paper - Four booklets of this paper,
each containing 25 sheets, is to be available for each mission
into potentially contaminated area. The paper, which responds
to G, V and B agents, is to be used once contaminated troops
have entered the cabin, to find and identify liquid
            contamination.

                  d. M291 Decontamination Kits - Four kits will be
supplied for each mission into a potentially contaminated area.
The kits, each of which contains three applications, will be
used for personnel decontamination. Weight of each kit is 3.2
            OZ.

                  e. NBC Protective Cover Material - This material or
sheets of polyethylene is to be used for contamination avoidance
covers in the area on which litters will rest in the aircraft.
It will be taped in the place prior to the mission to a
            contaminated area.

                  f. Plastic trash bags - These are to be used for bagging
any contaminated clothing removed in the aircraft and for
holding waste decontamination kits. The bags, two per mission,
are to be sealed to isolate contaminated items and facilitate
            their removal.
