9- Lightweight overgarment - Crewmen will wear the
            Battle Dress Overgarments (MOPP 4).

                   h. Disposable Gloves - Disposable medical gloves are to
be used for contamination avoidance and are to be worn over the
NBC gloves by the crew chief and medic. They should be removed
and discarded (in trash bag as soon as contaminated items are
            handled.

            5. PREPARATIONS FOR A CONTAMINATED OPERATIONS.

When medevac operations are to occur in a potentially
contaminated area, the crew will do the following before
            arriving at the LZ:

                   a. Tape polyethylene sheeting in place over seats and
floor where ambulatory patients will sit and to areas that will
likely be in direct contact with litters.

                   b. Inquire by radio regarding contamination on the LZ.
Specifically, they should determine the following, in addition
to the medical condition of the patients:

                        (1) Is the LZ known to be contaminated?

                        (2) If so, what type of contamination (G, H, V)?

                        (3) Have patients been exposed to contamination?

                        (4) If so, have they been partially decontaminated?

                   C. The crew chief will prepare the CAM, clear it, and
place it in the mode of the most likely agent (G or H mode) as
determined by reports from troops on the ground, before arriving
            at the LZ.

                   d. The crew chief and medic will wear MOPP 4 (or mask,
hood, gloves, overboots, and SCALP). If possible the SCALP will
be worn over the safety harness during the hoist operations.
Pilots will be at MOPP 4.

                   e. Before arriving at the contaminated area, all vents
and windows to the cockpit will be closed. In the US-60, the
blackout curtain will be snapped in place to create a partial
barrier for the pilots against contamination.
