        MEMORANDUM FOR ALL 803D Medical Group Unit Members

        Fact Sheet: Leishmaniasis Eligibility


        1. Reference: Possible Persisting (Lasting Several Weeks or More)
        Symptoms:

            a) Skin sores.

            b) Gastrointestinal complaints - such as watery diarrhea (of small
        volumes), nausea, abdominal pain.

            C) Headaches.


            d) Chronic irritating cough.

            e) Malaise (feeling tired, weak).

        2.  Eligibility for care:

            a) All personnel who were stationed in SWA with symptoms of the
            disease may report to a Veterans Administration (VA) Facility for
        evaluation. Personnel must have a copy of their DD 214 when requesting
        medical care.


            b) Personnel who utilize their own civilian Providers who are
        determined to have an illness that is not leishmaniasis will be responsible
        for the cost of that care.

            c) Dependents are NOT authorized care.

        3. Follow-Up Care: Personnel who test positive for leishmaniasis will
        contact their unit to arrange for further evaluation and treatment.
        Civilian follow-up care is not authorized and will not be reimbursed.
