File: aaath_01.txtSUBJECT: TRIP REPORT, KUWAIT INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, 14 MAY 91 MEMORANDUM KUWAIT.TR1 17 MAY 91 From: CENTAF LNO/DE Subject: Trip Report, Kuwait International Airport, 14 May 91 1. PURPOSE: Gain familiarization of the 436 ALCE Deployed (MAC) operations at the airport. Obtain listing of suppliers used by Kuwait Aviation Services Company who provide food stocks for their catering operations. 2. TRAVELER: Maj S.M. Dikcis, CENTAF LNO/DE 3. PERSONS CONTACTED: Mr. [(B)(2)], Assistant Catering Director, Kuwait Aviation Services Co. Capt , 436 ALCE Deployed MSgt [(B)(2)], 436 ALCE Deployed 4. DISCUSSION a.. Meeting with Mr Hamdallah provided no detailed listing of sources his company uses to obtain food stocks. The business community is still recovering from the effects of the Iraqi occupation and subsequent fighting to liberate the country. All his normal suppliers fled the country soon after the Iraqi invasion. He has been operating through any supplier who can provided him with the food stocks necessary for the catering operations (Atch 1). Most of the suppliers are not located in the Middle East. They are located in Europe and use trading companies operating in Middle East countries to sell their products. All Kuwaiti food suppliers must also rely on third party sources outside the country to bring in food. b. Short meeting with MSgt [(B)(2)] revealed the Army has shut down CAMP LIBERTY. This was an Army convoy support center and a logistic point to supply food for the ALCE. ALCE personnel drove a flatbed trailer to CAMP LIBERTY on 14 May and took as much food as they could carry out. They estimate this resupply will last them for one month. c. The eleven man civil engineering team sent to Kuwait by CENTAF/DE had already made several camp improvements. They dismantled the old latrine and expanded the existing HARVEST FALCON (HF) tent and install a HF latrine. They relocated the WOLFBURGER stand away from the latrine tent. They set up twelve portable picnic tables in the dining tent. The team would be making more camp "quality of life" improvements before their departure on 18 May. Made a walking tour of the ALCE compound. There is definite fly control problem. One source that attracts flies is the trash accumulation at the dumpsters in the compound. There's no scheduled trash collection established at the airport. Site personnel burn their refuse in the dumpsters as it accumulates then use a fork lift to carry the full dumpster to a landfill site off the airport.
