File: aabap_02.txtUNCLASSIFIED # 5 (2) EMPLOYMENT AND READINESS UNIT: (a) DESERT SHIELD/STORM: Deployment status information is being provid- ed every day. (b) Received information indicating that the overseas allocation cycles for Jun through Nov 91 are being delayed at USAFE. More information to be provided as we get it. (c) Assignments for our June and July 91 returnees still delayed at AFMPC. No word on when we'll get them. d. EDUCATION SERYICES. (1) Undergraduate college courses and conversational Spanish classes began Monday, 28 Jan. Three classes were canceled due to low enrollment, however, the remaining courses have good participation rates. While Desert Storm has affected overall student participation, enrollment for Term III classes is good considering the long duty hours for many of our students. (2) Dr. Jow Arden, University of Maryland, Director European Division, commended our Education Center for postponing classes one week and allowing schedules to be set based on our needs. Net result was fewer classes canceled due to non participation. 2. MWR DIVISION: a. Financially, Threatcon C will hurt MOOR. Although sales are up somewhat in food places, we are losing substantial amount of money elsewhere. They include no revenue from bowling leagues, no peseta sales, and increased labor due to ID checks. b. DOD Shows: We are getting two DOD shows that were supposed to go to Turkey. If transportation cannot support the travel, we will find a way to get them back and forth from Torrejon. c. Peseta buy back problem. At the NCO Club, we sell and buy back pesetas. Because of Threatcon C, people are no longer buying pesetas and going downtown. People are however, selling pesetas back. The problem that this is causing for us is that we have too many pesetas. We are only allowed to deposit dollars to the bank. The bank is buying our pesetas, of course, for a fee. I asked Maj Maddox if Account ing and Finance could buy our pesetas and they cannot. 3. SERVICES DIVISION a. FOOD SERVICE. (1) Prepared 86 ground support meals, 1,770 inflight meals, with a total of 4,996 meals served. Serving meals to all crews, passengers, and support personnel 22 hours per day. Collected $3,151.30 in surcharges. UNCLASSIFIED 2
