File: 111396_aacvt_04.txttbe ILM was deployed. The ILM is the heavy maintenance package to provide sustained support of aircraft operations. ILM consists of jet engine intermediate maintenance (JEIM), avionics intermediate maintenance and heavy fabrication shop maintenance. The aviation package maintenance concept is remove and replace with some intermediate repair for more advanced systems. The ILM package enables units to remove, repair, and replace. The ILM sustains tbe units for long periods of time. To lessen the large influx of people, significantly impacting an already heavily burdened bare base support structure and save airlift, the LCM staff planned a modified ILM package for the entire AOR. Instead of deploying all portions of the ILM to each base, LGM developed the plan and coordinated with USAFE to use existing facilities, such as engine sloops, as queen bee facilities to repair spare engines. These existing shops were much more efficient and capable than bare base locations. Over 200 personnel and additional equipment were sourced and shipped from CONUS units to augment these sloops. Queen bee locations were spread throughout USAFE and supported all TAF units except Dhahran, SA (F-15) and Shaikh Isa, Bahrain (F-4). These two locations had existing and compatible JEIM facilities. US personnel integrated into these shops and worked side-by-side with host nation technicians on engine tear down and build-up. These two units repaired all their engines. The queen bees repaired a total of 437 engines. Avionics ILM was deployed to all locations but in a tailored down package. When the F-16 AIS arrived at Al Dhafra on C+55, 51 days after the first F-16 arrived, there was a backlog of only 20 line replaceable units (LRU). Based
