WEATHER THRESHOLDS - PROVEN FORCE

1. The weather thresholds for Operation PROVEN FORCE are presented below. These thresholds were used for mission verification,

2. FAVORABLE: VFR/VMC conditions exist at all mission locations (Incirlik, air refueling track, and target area). No hazards (icing, turbulence) greater than light in intensity. Take-off and landing crosswinds less than 12 knots. Take-off tailwinds less than 5 knots (for tankers only). Steady or intermittent light precipitation or no precipitation. Thin clouds above FL180 in air refueling tracks and targets.

3. MARGINAL: MVFR-IFR/MMC-IMC conditions exist in any of the mission locations (Incirlik, air refueling track, and target area). Light to moderate icing and/or turbulence, Isolated thunderstorms with low probability of lightning conditions, Low level wind shear present. Take-off and landing crosswinds between 12-20 knots. Take-off tailwinds 5-7 knots (for tankers only). Steady moderate precipitation. Thick cloud decks above flight level 180 in air refueling track or target, Low and mid-level clouds below FL200 combine to limit visual acquisition of daytime targets.

4. UNFAVORABLE: Below minimum flight conditions exist in any of the mission locations (Incirlik, air refueling track, and target area). Moderate or greater icing and/or turbulence. Few or more thunderstorms and high probability of lightning conditions. Strong low level wind shear present. Take-off and landing crosswinds greater than 20 knots. Take-off tailwinds greater than 8 knots (for tankers only). Any freezing precipitation or steady heavy precipitation. Widespread to overcast thick cloud decks above flight level 180 in air refueling track or target. Low and mid-level clouds combine to prevent visual acquisition of daytime targets. Ice or snow covered runway conditions.
