                       DOC MALE'S SAUDI ARABIAN SURVIVAL LIST  
     
      (A list of accompaniments to pamper the body and allow for making the best of
      the situation in which you may find yourself during your stay in sunny Saudi.)
     
      TOILET PAPER - don't leave home without it, many latrines don't have any.
      SWISS ARMY KNIFE - very useful, you can fix stuff when it breaks.
      FLASHLIGHT - small, "mini-mag" type w/ extra batteries and bulbs.
      WALKMAN W/ RECORDING FEATURE - allows you to talk  to those back home.
      LAUNDRY DETERGENT - small plastic bottle, wrapped in zip-lock bag.
      SHAVE KIT - make sure it is very well stocked
      WATER DISINFECTANT TABLETS - one small bottle.
      MIRROR - small, with protective pouch.
      SNACKS - one small MRE type meal or snacks with good shelf life.
      1-2 PAIR OF HEAVY SOCKS - rag wool/wool blend, keep feet warm but not sweaty.
      1-2 PAIR OF LONG JOHNS/THERMALS
      WOOL CAP - to keep head warm at night or in early morning.  
      MOSQUITO NET - if in field conditions, filth flies are bad, especially when hot
      GOGGLES - the sandstorms are bad, wind blows 20-30 knots for 3-12 hours.
      CRAVAT (FARMER HANKY) - for covering nose and mouth during sandstorms.
      SUNGLASSES - durable, plastic frames work better, 100% UV protection.
      PEPTO BISMOL/IMMODIUM AD - at least 20 tablets (doses) for travelers diarrhea.
      TALCUM POWDER/CORN STARCH - for when shower not available or freezing cold.
      1 PAIR OF CIVILIAN CLOTHES - in case you want to go off-base.
      PERMANENT MARKER - to mark or remark your "stuff".
      BABY WIPES (MOIST TOWELETS) -(in zip-lock bag) nice if no shower available.
      SHOESHINE KIT - recommend mink oil to keep boot leather supple.
      100 FT. PARACHUTE CORD - for hanging laundry, rigging up your sleep area, etc.
      SHOWER CURTAINS - several, can build privacy and protection from blowing sand.

      SAFETY PINS
      GLASSES REPAIR KIT - screws work out of hinges and get lost in the sand.
      Q-TIPS - for cleaning sand out of ears, etc.
      LIP BALM/MOISTURIZERS (K-Y JELLY) - for lips, nose (dryness causes bloody
      nose)
      FOOT POWDER (DESENEX, ETC.) - fungal infections are a big problem.
      COLD KITS (TYLENOL, LOZENGES, COUGH SUPPRESSANT) - colds  are common
      VISINE - sand causes much eye irritation.
      PICTURES OF LOVED ONES
      ADDRESS BOOKS - with telephone numbers
      CASH - nice to carry a little
      CREDIT CARD
      EAR PLUGS - can keep noise and sand out.
      ELECTRIC RAZOR - get good quality for traveling purposes.
      HAIR DRYER
      PLASTIC HEAVY DUTY GARBAGE BAGS - good for storage and keeping stuff dry
      ZIP-LOCK BAGS
      READING MATERIAL/CARDS/GAMES - boredom can be a big factor
      STATIONARY - bring lots
      INK PENS/PENCILS
      NAIL CLIPPERS/FILE
