          TITLE:      PDS System Reliability

          OBSERVATION:     There were several instances where data in
          the PDS system was in error or not current.

          DISCUSSION: The PDS system was not up-to-date on several
          occasions. Members shown to be in the IMA program were in
          fact transferred to the inactive Reserve. In the same
          vein, new accessions were not available. Address,
          telephone number, etc., changes were not accurate. Also,
          several individuals had since transferred to another
          military service.

          LESSONS LEARNED: The PDS system cannot be counted on to
          provide 100% reliable data.

          RECOMMENDED ACTIONS: Perform a top to bottom analysis of
          the personnel data system to discover all causes of
          unreliable data and correct erroneous data. Track
          timeliness of inputs that are based on data from Reservists
          (e.g., addresses).
