Initial tasking requested four EOD personnel to support UNSCOM
inspection activities in Iraq from 1 Sep 91 to 6 Oct 91 time frame. This
tasking was for three separate inspections UNSCOM 13, Ballistic missile

Passports were required as well as completion of documentation for the UN to
prepare UN certificates for travel into Iraq as a special advisor and expert
on mission for the UNSCOM. Four primaries and six alternates were selected
    from throughout the command.

Background information indicated that EOD was to participate in a
"passive manner" identifying and avoiding dangerous situations during
inspection of Iraqi facilities. Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and
Germany had all provided EOD teams during the previous 12 inspections.

the Navy billeting office to stay in contract quarters at the Manama Holiday

in a commercial van, for Eskan Village, Riyadh. After picking up another team

30 Aug 91: Capt Mittelman, SSgt Hague, SSgt Kollo drove to Bahrain with Major
Graham. After dropping her at the airport, they conferred with the team chief
Tom Brock who indicated that one British EOD technician had been substituted
for our Dharan team member for medical reasons. They substituted rather than
take our alternates because the Brit already had been on an inspection and had
his UN certificate. Actually none of the American UN certificates had been
received at this time, but their decision was final. We returned to Dharan to
continue training and pack equipment until 1 Sep 91 in place date.
