      tadespread spraying should be used to the maximum extent possible.
              (3)       Ticks. Ticks may be a problem from June to September.
      Ticks have t      ential to transmit Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever. This
      disease is potentially along the IRAQI-SAUDIA ARABIA border, but does not
      appear to be a threat in the SAUDIA ARABIA AO.

              (4) (U) Enteric Diseases. Internal disorders will cause severe
      incapacitiation in troops in the absence of rigid control measures. Locally
      procured food, foodhandlers, drinks and ice can be assumed to be contaminated
      and pose a threat from Hepatitis, 'Shigella, Samonella, Glardia, Amebiacis.
      Typhoid, Paratyphoid Fever, Heltinthiasis, food poisonings, intoxications,
      other diarrheas and dysenteries. Avoidance of civilian vendors, disinfection
      of water sources, and burial of wastes should be emphasized.

              (s) (u) lieningococcal Meninolti,.. Menitigococcal Meningiti,- I-, a
      threat to the indigenous population primarily to children and young adults.
      This may be threat if soldiers are close contact with exposed indigenous
      personnel.

              (6) (U) Other. Schistosomiasis is a problem in rural areas.
      Exposure to the water habitats of the snail vector should be minimized. Do
      not go swimming or wading in oases. other diseases present include sexually
      transmitted diseases (low incidence of disease), Brucellosis (undulant fever),
      0-fever. and Trachoma (eye diseace). Because of Brucellosis and 0-fever.
      animals should be avoided. Dust and dust storms may cause respiratory or eye
      Problems.
          c. -CU) Material Limitations. Dust and sand storms are more frequent in
      the winter but are always a threat in the desert regions and will require


          (U) TOPOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE. Extreme heat and cold will affect solubility
      of medications, intravenous fluids, and will have an impact on
      temperature-sensitive medical equipment.

              (1) (u) centipede bites can be painful but most species are not
      dangerous. Yositirrg, headache and swelling may occur but normally di--appear
      in a few days with no after effects. No antivenom is available.

              (2) (U) Scorpions can be found in the AO. They Inhabit desert or
      semi-desert regions and hill regions and valleys. All are nocturnal hunters.
      Depending on the species, scorpion stings may cause symptoms ranging fro& a
      localized burning sensation to death within two to twenty hours. All scorpion
      stings should be treated as life threatening.
