           2. (U) Operation DESERT SHIELD/STORM conducted by CENTCOM on
           05/14/91.


           3. (U) KEYWORDS: CLASS V

           4. (U) TITLE: Engineer Class V Preloaded

           5. (U) OBSERVATION: The initial ammunition issued to engineers
           in the Equipment Issue Point did not correspond with ORF basic
           loads for engineers. Engineer specific ammunition such as
           demolitions were not evenly distributed in DRF packages for the
           dif+eren engineer DRF platoons. The Engineers were also
           required to carry certain types of ammunition that were useless
           to us such as mortars.

           6. (U) DISCUSSION: A better way must be found to ensure DRF
           units deploy with their DRF Class V basic loads. To deploy
           without their full Class V basic loads is creating a potential
           disaster.

           7. (U) LESSON LEARNED% N/A

           B. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: The engineers must precon+igure DRF
           Class V basic loads and have them standing by for movement to
           Equipment Issue Point and issue to ORF engineer platoons. The
           system -For issuing ammunition at the ESIP must continually be
           exercised during EDREs to ensure smooth issue during times of
           actual deployments.
