         2. (U) Operation DESERT SHIELD/STORM conducted by CENTCOM on
         05/14/91.


         3. (U) KEYWORDS: CLASS V, HAUL

         4. (U) TITLE: Class V Haul


         5. (U) OBSERVATION: The haul requirements for mines exceeded
         Division assets.

         6. (U) DISCUSSION: The handling and movement of mines to
         support Brigade planning requirements was a huge burden on the
         units. The responsibility for these mines wasn't always between
         Brigade S4s and engineer companies.

         7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: N/A

         G. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Reinforce on all training exercises
         that Brigade S4s are responsible for processing, handling, and
         transporting mines to support mission requirements. Each
         Engineer Platoon needs to have a 5 ton as the platoon sergeants
         vehicle to assist in getting mines to obstacle locations.
         Reinforce the need for Corps slice transportation units to
         augment 82d Airborne Division, at I east one truck company per
         Brigade.
