The medical companies will also provide medical support on an area'basili in their
respective brigade areas for units that do not have organic medical personnel.
Medical helicopters normally will be deployed in area support, but they may be placed
in direct support of a brigade under the operational control of the medical company
commander.
4. HOSPITAIIZATION AND TREATMENT.
a. Casualties will be treated and returned to duty as far forward as is
consistent with their medical condition and the tactical situation. Casualties will
be tagged utilizing DD Form 1380 (US Field Medical Card - FMC, June 1902). If a
patient arrives at a medical facility without an FMC, one will be prepared for him
indicating that facility ag.,the place of direct admission. The original copy of
FMC's is retained with the patient until he ban returned to duty or evacuated out of
the Division. The carbon copy will be maintained by the aidman for 3 months and then
destroyed.
h. Medical treatment facilities will provide beds for patients only.
c. Normal holding policy for division medical treatment facilities will be:
(1) Battalion Aid Station - 24 hours.
(2) Clearing Station - 72 hours.
d. Casualties unable to return to duty with their units within announced holding
period (normally three days) will be evacuated ASAP to the next higher level of
medical support.
e. The Division Surgeon will coordinate for hospitalization of division
personnel who require treatment beyond the capabilities of the clearing stations.
f. Patients released from hospitalization for duty will be returned to their
units through replacement channels Bn and MSC S-I's). Units receiving returns
to duty will provide the necessary transportation to accomplish this. Returning
hed using medical unit vehicles.
Provisions for personal needs and feeding of patients In their facilities Is
the responsibility of the medical company commanders within the DISCOM. The Daily
Receiving and Disposition Report will be used as the basis for requisitioning rations
for patients.
h. Patient's Personal Effects and Equipment:
(1) When a patient is held for treatment at a medical clearing station, his
effects will be Inventoried Immediately and a receipt given to the patient.
(2) TOE serial numbered items will be taken from patients evacuated out of
the division and returned to their unit, if possible. A receipt will be obtained
and filed with the patients records. Otherwise, property is to be returned to the
patient's unit.
