          4. (U) TITLE: CHAPLAINIS ROLE IN PREPARING SOLDIERS FOR WAR
          5. (U) OBSERVATION: American soldiers are ill-prepared for the
          real result of war -- death and destruction.

          6. (U) DISCUSSION: Many soldiers reacted with what appeared to
          be symptoms of mild battle fatigue. others posed for pictures
          with the dead exhibiting an almost callous attitude. Search a ,nd
          recovery teams were most affected, especially by civilian
          deaths.

          7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: Soldiers are not prepared for the
          experience of death.

          8. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Continue to conduct combat lifesaver
          training and expand it. include in that course the possibilit

          of treating enemy soldiers and civilians.
