                                    JULLS LONG REPORT

            I. (U) JULLS NMMER: 42956-23590 (00004), submitted by AVN BDE,
            ID, 870-5516, (912)767-5516.

            2. (U) other OPN DESERT STORM NOTES conducted by 24 IN DIV (MECH)
            on 03/05/91.

            3. (U) KEYWORDS: HELLFIRE, MUNITIONS EFFECTS, COMBINED ARMS,
            AVIATION WEAPONS, .

            4. (U) TITLE: EFFECTS OF LONG-RANGE PRECISION MUNITIONS

            5. (U) OBSERVATION: Consistently, initial liELLPIRE engagements
            caused confusion in enemy formations.

            6. (U) DISCUSSION: As enemy vehicles were being destroyed by
HELLFIRE missiles (some vehicles were travelling as fast as
forty miles per hour) the enemy clearly had no idea of how they
were being engaged. The result of their confusion was that they
abandoned vehicles as they had no means to fight back. This was
most evident during one battle where engagements from beyond
6,000 meters resulted in complete enemy disarray.

            7. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Maximize the use of long-range
precision munitions. They have a demoralizing effect on the
enemy when they can locate no targets to engage. After the
enemy is confused, destruction can be completed with shorter
            range weapons.
