            4. (U) TITLE: GENERAL SUPPORT AIRCRAFT IN A HEAVY DIVISION

            5. (U) OBSERVATION: The number of general support aircraft in
            the mechanized infantry/armored division proved inadequate.

            6. (U) DISCUSSION: The aviation brigade in the mechanized
            infantry/armored division is authorized six UH-LH aircraft for
            general support operations. This authorization has proven to be
            totally inadequate during combat operations. As a result, the
            UH-60 fleet had to be flown and attack helicopter battalion
            aircraft (011-58C) had to be diverted from their primary
            missions.

            7. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: The mechanized infantry/armored
            division aviation brigade TO&E should include one company of 15
            UII-IH aircraft and one company of 15 011-58C aircraft for general
            support purposes.
