           4. (U) TITLE: HEAVY EQUIPMENT TRANSPORT (HET) VEHICLES IN HEAVY
           DIVISIONS

           5. (U) OBSERVATION: The number of heavy equipment transport
           vehicles (HET) in a heavy division is completely inadequate.

           6. (U) DISCUSSION: Currently, eight HET's are authorized in a
           heavy division. This number in not ad@ate to meet the needs
           of a heavy division which has over 200 tanks, 200 BFV'S, 72
           howitzers, and other heavy equipment which might r@ire
           transport, recovery, and evacuation. This problem was
           exacerbated by the ineffectiveness of the M88AI recovery vehicle
           in pulling the MIAI tank even relatively short distances.

           7. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Increase the number of HET's
           authorized in the heavy division to meet the needs of
           transporting the large number of heavy vehicles.
