           3. (U) KEYWORDS: PADS, POSITION DETERMINING SYS,

           4. (U) TITLE: RELIABILITY/REPAIR OF THE POSITION AND AZIMUTH
           DETERMINING SYSTEM (PADS)

           5. (U) OBSERVATION: The reliability of the Position and Azimuth
           Determining System (PADS) was not good and repairs were
           difficult.

           6..(U) DISCUSSION: The IMU's on the PADS were the major problem
           with the PADS. Compounding this problem were the lack of repair
           parts and repair specialists in Saudi Arabia. We had only one
           location to which to take the PADS for repair.

           7. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: A study is required to determine
           what makes PADS so fragile for field duty. Although it is a
           great system when operational, the down time is too excessive.
           Solve the INU problem.
