           4. (U) TITLE: COMMUNICATIONS FOR FIRE SUPPORT COORDINATION

           5. (U) OBSERVATION: Current communications are inadequate to
           support fire support coordination requirements.
          16. (U) DISCUSSION: Current communications @ipment and T.ACFIRE
           are not capable of providing ad @ ate support over long
           distances in a fast moving environment. TACFIRE provided fire
           support coordination once units stopped to conduct deliberate
           attacks. Most fire support coordination was accomplished
           through PCM or through division TACSAT.

           7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: Division fire support agencies need
           their own long-range communications system (i.e., TACSAT or AM
           secure). Fire support cannot rely solely on maneuver operations
           nets to conduct their business due to competing demands.

           S. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Artillery coordination channels
           should be providing TACSAT, AM secure, or another communication
           system capable of long-range communications.
