           5. (U) OBSERVATION: No M109 floats were available in theater.

           6. (U) DISCUSSION: The lack of readily available replacement
           howitzers was not detrimental to artillery operations, as no
           guns were lost to enemy action. If losses had been severe,
           artillery combat power could have decreased significantly, and
           remained diminished for some time while new equipment was
           enroute.

           7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: M109 floats need to be positioned close
           enough to the using units to readily replace howitzers lost in
           combat.

           8. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Ensure that M109 floats accompany
           the division when it deploys.
