           2. (U) No type OPN DESERT STORM NOTES conducted by 24 IN DIV (MECH)
           on 05/20/91.

           5. (U) OBSERVATION: Night vision goggles (NVG) are not
           available in sufficient quantities.

           6. (U) DISCUSSION: Currently there are not enough NVG's for all
           drivers and assistant drivers in artillery units.

           7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: NVG's were invaluable in night
           operation, especially to drivers. NVG's use lots of batteries,
           but discipline in use (e.g., do not use NVGs when illumination
           is 80% or greater) reduces battery wear.

           S. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Add sufficient numbers of NVG's to
           the TO&Els of artillery units.
