           I. (U) JULLS NUMBER: 52159-26378 (00006), submitted by 36 ENG',J
           GRP, 24 ID, 870-5516, (912)767-5516.

           2. (U) No type OPN DESERT STORM NOTES conducted by 24 IN DIV (D-'
           on 03/05/91.

           4. (U) TITLE: ENGINEER STAFF REPRESENTATIVES

           S. (U) OBSERVATION: During operations in Saudi Arabia and Iraq,
the distances and requirements prevented the ADE at the DMAIN
from adequately responding on a timely basis to requirements
generated at each of the divisional C2 nodes.

           6. (U) DISCUSSION: Engineer staff representatives are required
at the brigades, DTAC, DMAIN, and the DR@. In this operation,
the size of the engineer group headquarters, coupled with an
overstrength condition in engineer officers, allowed adequate
           engineer staff representation.

           7. (U) RECOAMNDED ACTION: The ERI configuration should be
scrubbed against this experience to ensure each headquarters is
adequately served. The DREAR is usually overlooked, even though
it produces a significant need for engineer support. The
engineer regiment / staff engineer concept in ERI will provide
the central focus at DMAIN and forward to the fighting brigades.
