           S. (U) OBSERVATION: Inadequate communication systems exist in
           current combat service support organizations.

           6. (U) DISCUSSION: 24 ID DISCOM relied on multichannel PCM to
           coordinate with COSCOM and the forward support battalions. In
           fast moving offensive operations over extended distances,
           forward support battalions' communication with DISCOM and
           DISCOM's communication with COSCOM units was inconsistent.

           7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: CSS units must be equipped with
           redundant communication systems capable of operating over
           extended distances.

           S. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Equip CSS units (divisional and
           nondivisional) with single channel TACSAT operating on a
           dedicated net.

           S. (U) COMMENTS: Effective communications enhances CSS
           responsiveness. CSS operators using a dedicated single channel
           TACSAT net can potentially redirect or allocate CSS assets to
           where they are needed on a large battlefield.
