                                   JULLS LONG REPORT

          1. (U) JULLS NTJMBER: 51459-30783 (00001), submitted by DIV
          CHEMICAL OFF, 24 ID, 870-5516, (912)767-5516.

          2. (U) Other OPN DESERT STORM NOTES conducted by 24 IN DIV (MECH)
          on 03/05/91.

          3. (U) KEYWORDS: NBC, MOPP, CHEMICAL,

          4. (U) TITLE: INDIVIDUAL NBC PROTECTION

          5. (U) OBSERVATION: MOPP1 was the standard uniform for the 24ID
          during Operation Desert Storm.

          6. (U) DISCUSSION: MOPP1 provided maximum protection for the
force and displayed to the Iraqis our readiness to operate in a
chemical environment if necessary. There were no heat problems
with wearing protective clothing because of cool temperatures
during the operation. Soldiers learned to operate effectively
in protective clothing for extended periods. We maximized
oppertunities for the press to photograph 24 ID soldiers in
protective clothing throughout the deployment as a means to
portray our ability and readiness to fight in a chemical
          environment.

          7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: Wear of protective clothing as the
combat uniform provides an increased level of protection, but
also makes a strong statement to the enemy of our readiness to
operate in a chemical environment. Soldiers are as effective
operating in protective clothing as they are in regular field
          clothing.

          8. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: When the threat warrants, chemical
protective clothing should be the standard combat uniform.

              (U) SUBJECT: OPERATIONS

              (U) INTEROPERABILITY: PLANNING

              (U) Lesson distributed by: 24TH IN DIV.
