            on 05/23/91.

            4. (U) TITLE: AVAILABILITY OF AMMUNITION AND PYROTECIINICS

            5. (U) OBSERVATION: Availability of necessary ammunition and
            pyrotechnics was limited.

            6. (U) DISCUSSION: Detachment 2 had arranged for and received
            adequate ammunition and pyrotechnics (smoke grenades, thermite
            grenades, slap flares, M16Al and 9mm ammunition, etc.) prior
            to deployment but transportation and security of that ammunition
            had not been arranged. The ammunition was then left behind and
            the unit relied on Army channels for the ammunition required.
            7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: Accfuiring necessary ammunition and
            pyrotechnics through army supply channels without identifying a
            previous requirement was difficult at best.

            S. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Identify the requirement for certain
            ammunition and pyrotechnics to the division and request that
            the requirement be filled through their supply channels.
