                                                                      06101191
                                    JULI;S LONG REPORT

           1. (U) JULLS NUMBER: 52350-49382 (00005), submitted by AIR LIASON
           OFFCR, 24 ID, 870-5516, (912)767-5516.

           2. (U) No type OPN DESERT STORM NOTES conducted by 24 IN DIV (MECH)
           on 05/23/91.

           3. (U) KEYWORDS: AIR FORCE, M113, TACP,

           4. (U) TITLE: TACTICAL AIR CONTROL PARTY TRANSPORTATION IN THE
           FIELD

           S. (U) OBSERVATION: Under current agreement, the division
provides Tactical Air Control Parties (TACP) with an M113 APC
at each maneuver battalion. The M113 APC is not adequate for
matching the speed, mobility, and movement of a battalion
TOC/TAC that is primarily composed of Bradley's.

           6. (U) DISCUSSION: Units that employ the Bradley IFV have much
greater mobility and speed on the battlefield than is possible
with the older M113 APC'S. When this TACP or battalion Air
Liaison Officer is required to move forward with the battalion
commander, the older GRC-206 radio pallet equipped APC has
difficulty keeping up with the speed of the TOC/TAC.

           7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: The Air Force TACPs need a faster, more
           mobile vehicle on the battlefield.

           S. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Equip Air Force TACPs with
Bradley-type vehicles when working with Bradley equipped units.

           9. (U) COMMENTS: Turretless Bradleys would be adequate.

           --- (U) SUBJECT: OPERATIONS

               (U) INTEROPERABILITY: JTTP
