            D Company is deployed in a combat column providing right flank
         security for' Task Force 4-8CAV as it 'attacl,,s- east in a Movement to
         Contact.   Ist 'Platoon' leads,' followed b@ 2hd       and --@rd. All are       t
         battlecarry HEAT in expectation of encountering        enemy BMPs ano outdated

         T55/T62 Tanks.
            On initial contact by the scouts LTC Hallman issues an "Action Front"'
         to CPT Fletcher of D Company. Still in a combat column, ILT Lawson of Ist
         Platoon sees airbursts over C Company'and can hear tank fire on the far
         le-Ft of the formation. He then sees a flash off the skirt of C Company's
         right most tank, a possible RPG impact. The impact leaves no damage on the
         skirt and the C Company tank continues on, oblivious to the event.
             B@conds later D Company starts receiving mortarlartillory fire, Tha
         indirect starts off as airbursts then changes to half air, half ground
         burst. D Company goes to open protected and continues to deploy on line
         alongside C Company. Between D66 and the FISTV an RPG detonates. '-LT
         Moore, the Platoon Leader of 2nd Platoon, sees an RPO hit another C
         Company tan@nd one hit the right front fender of D22. Again the impacts
         leave no d@'ge and the crews continue their mission, unaware that they
         have been hit. As the mortar/artillery fire continues, a shotgun pattern
         is left on right side of D14 and duffel bags are torn up in the bustle
         rack. SSG Sturm, the FIST NCOIC, is on top of his FISTV checking to see if
         his thermal viewer is working correctly when the indirect first hits. He
         is Wounded in the face by shrapnel before he can get back inside his
