UNMASKING PROCEDURES
WITHOUT DETECTION EQUIPMENT
A. In a shady area, have 2 or 3 soldiers take a deep breath and break their
mask seals for 15 seconds with their eyes open.
B. Have them clear and reseal masks. observe them 10 minutes for symptoms.
C. Have the same soldiers break their mask seals, take 2 or 3 breaths, and
clear and reseal their masks.Observe them for 10 minutes for symptoms.
D. Have the same soldiers unmask for 5 minutes and then remask. tf no SyL,ii
appear in 10 minutes, the senior soldier present can direct unmasking.
E. Continue to observe the soldiers for possible delayed symptoms.
WITH M256 orM256AI DETECTOR KIT
A. Test with the detector kit.
B. If the test is negative, have 2 or 3 soldiers move to a shady place and
unmask for 5 miutes. Have the soldiers remask. Observe them for 10 minutes
for symptoms.
C. If no symptoms appear, the senior soldier present can direct unmasking.
D. Continue to watch the soldiers for possible delayed symptoms.
B. CROSSING CONTAMINATED AREAS
A. Commander uses NBC reports and recon to select a route consistent with
the mission while minimizing exposure.
B. Commander obtains approval from higher HQ.

9. DECONTAMINATION
Decoii priority depends on mission, time and size. The first type of decorl a
unit must implement is basic skills followed by Hasty Decon, if needed.
If the units element is large,- -than platoon size, Deliberate Decon will
be requested through channels.
10. INTELLIGENCE
A. Every soldier will be responsible for submitting NBC Repor@s up to the
TOC/NBC center. GTA 3-6-3 will be used for guidance. All NCO's will carry on
B. The BN NBCNCO will send warning messages to affected unitd with instruct-
on what action is to be taken.
C. Information must be promptly collected, evaluated and reported.
D. Flow of NBC reports is generally through the NBC Control Party.
