1. @ PURPOSE: IQIM&W"Wft§S guidance on the management
and treatment of contaminated casualties as it relates to the MTF'S
lain the Capitol Region Area. our main objectives are:
a. (U) To manage casualties so that injuries resulting.from
chemical agents are minimized and at the same time any other injuries
or illnessess are not aggravated.
b. (U) To protect persons handling contaminated casualties or
working in contaminated areas.
C. (U) To avoid the spread of contamination in ambualnces and
other evacuation facilities including MTF's and adjoing areas.
d. (U) To continue the operation of MTF's so that other
services, unrelated to the medical care and treatment of chemical
casualties, are maintained.
2. GENERAL: All subordinate medical units must be prepared
to receive casualties injured or contaminated by chemical agents.
Mass casualties are considered to be those which are produced within
a relatively short period of time and which, because of their number
and type, exceed the local medical support capabilities available for
their care.
3. @ RESPONSIBILITIES.
a. Each MTF will set up a contaminated casualty control
area. It will be:
(1) (U) A temporary camp, hut, tent, or open shelter marked
or designated.
(2) (u) Downwind from clean areas.
(3) (u) IAW the layout in Appendix 1 to this annex.
b. Contaminated Casualty Control Areas will be located in
the vicinity of the following MTF's subsequent to a chemical attack
in the Capitol Region Area and in response to an influx of
contaminated patients from the CZ.
