LTG Yousock resumed command of ARCENT at 1200 hrs today.
24 Feb 91
G-Day, the ground war began at 0400. SCUD alert in Riyadh
at 0440. 3 Patriots fired and knocked out I SCUD. Another SCUD
alert at 2140. Two Patriots fired and knocked out SCUD. Missile
fragments again landed in Riyadh.
Vet office MEDCOM working on submission of "Lessons Learned"
for Operation Desert Shield.
Received reports of fresh lamb again being served in EPW
cages, to EPW'S. COL Alm called theater Food Service Advisor and
Mr. Masri to correct the situation. Problem stems with Food
Service advisor of the 800th MP Brigade who is ordering from the
wrong warehouse.
Several reports again of dead sheep along the border. These
are Bedouin sheep dying from Clostridium and Pasteurella
infections and stacked near roadsides for identification by Saudi
officials so indemnity can be paid to owners. A big concern to
combat troops due to fear of Biological warfare.
False positives for Anthrax were again reported near the
border from faulty "SMART" detector kits which tend to give large
numbers of false positives.

CPT Sawtelle returned to U.A.E. from Dhahran where she
attended weekend staff meeting. CPT Thompson traveled to Najran
to inspect dairy with a SANG escort. SSG Mabry, newly assigned
to CPT Thompson traveled to CSC's to perform inspections on
Wolfburgers.
Established E-Mail on computers today. can receive message
or any upload from anyplace in the world. Can transmit anyplace
within Saudi Arabia.
COL Alm was notified today that he will be one of 4 people
on the ARCENT staff to go into Kuwait on the Kuwaiti medical
inary
situation. He was notified to be ready to go in 24-48 hours.
Also got a call for a JA team to follow COL Alm by 48-72 hours.
CPT Tim Adams MST team from the 483rd was notified and he is
packing up equipment and uploading. will take a full food
inspection team and a 91T and plenty of animal drugs.
COL Alm was notified by MEDCOM that all replacements have
been stopped and casualty shelf system is on hold. Replacements
for LTC Mitchell and SFC Hooper were stopped. 2 Warrant officers
on hold.
2000 hrs - SCUD hit barracks at Dhahran killing at least 28
servicemembers.
The 248th Med Det (JA) commanded by CPT Mark Martinez was
the first Veterinary unit to enter Iraq today. They pulled
forward to a log base position north of the Iraqi Border,
