disapproved the dairy due to poor sanitation. The U.S. Embassy
will be notified as always.
Notified by LTC Dutton that several EPW's in 18th Airborne
Corps area are being fed thermo-stabilized meals procured from
Germany. These were approved earlier by COL Alm. COL Alm is
making preparations to leave for Kuwait. MEDCOM working on
Historical report for operation Desert Shield Aug 6th through 16
Jan 1991.
27 Feb 91
COL Alm and SGT Cheever departed for Dhahran to visit the
356th Med Det and 483rd Med Det. CPT Sawtelle has still not been
able to obtain a rental vehicle in United Arab Emirates. There
is a disconnect between the finance and contracting people and
the different locations in UAE. At approximately 0900, LTC
Lively received a call from MEDCOM Ops stating that COL Alm, COL
Homan and COL Payne need to return to Riyadh ASAP for potential
deployment to Kuwait. Message was passed to the 4S3rd and 173rd
Med Group. All individuals had returned by 1500. Conflict
appears to be basically over. The Disaster Assessment Team did
not go to Kuwait today. LTC Lively attempted to locate the
Rabies reagents sent from loth Med Lab to Saudi Arabia. They
probably went to the 428th MEDSOM. CPT Thompson departed for
Juda to perform a routine sanitary at the dairy. He will travel
on to Dhahran and do one sanitary before going to UAE and Oman.
28 Feb 91
President Bush has declared that the fighting was to stop at 0800
local time this morning. COL Alm and the other Disaster
Assessment Team (DAST) themselves departed for Kuwait. They will
RON at Jubail and make the final movement forward on 1 Mar. LTC
Lively completed the Command Report summary for Operation Desert
Jan 91). A copy is enclosed. An updated
copy of the approved list was prepared for distribution to all
inspectors. we are still adding several new sources each week
LTC Lively developed the DCVS sites codes for use with the VSADMS
Computer 2651 which had been received from RSC. Copies of the
program were distributed to the 483rd and the 422nd. Those are
the only units with computers. Data for other units will be
input at the 320th or MEDCOM. Rabies reagents from the loth Med
have still not been located. MAJ Gaiser and CPT Scott returned
from the "Love Boattf. CPT Adams continues to have his Mobile Sub
Team standing by for possible deployment to Kuwait. Everyone
wants to know when they are going home. Redeployment plans are
being developed.
