ORDER (U)
VETERINARY SERVICE
1. PROCUREMENT INSPECTION POLICY. All food in the theater
will be inspected upon receipt and prior to issue. operational
Rations, A Rations and B rations will be inspected at Port or the
Airhead and again at issue points distributed throughout the EAC
area and forward Corps Areas. Veterinary Service will assure
that locally procured and or host nation provided perishable or
semi-perishables subsistence originate only from those Sources
listed in the Directory of Sanitarily Approved Food Establishment
for Armed Forces Procurement for Operation Desert Shield, in
accordance with AR 40-657/ NAVSUPINST 4355.4F/MCO PIOIIO.31G,
Veterinary Medical Food Inspection.
2. (U) ANIMAL MEDICINE POLICY. All military owned animals in
theater will be provided full and immediate Veterinary medical
care. Theater Policy does not allow for pet animal or mascot and
therefore treatment is not required. Animal victims of Operation
Desert Shield will be provided humane treatment and/or Euthanasia
as per CENTCOM policy guidance.
3. CONCEPT OF SUPPORT. Organic Veterinary support at
Corps level will provide immediate, or line veterinary medical
support. Two teams, JA (Veterinary Service, Small) will be
attached to each Corps Medical Brigade. AOR and EAC, Veterinary
inary Service,
Large) per Corps supported. Command and Control of EAC
Veterinary assets is under Command and Control of team AF,
(Veterinary Service, Headquarters). Area Veterinary laboratory
support will be provided by attached laboratory teams, VC, in the
AOR. Staff Veterinarian of the Controlled medical group or
medical command will provide all policy guidance and command
support.
a. Individuals. The ARCENT 4edical Command (PROV)
Veterinarian is responsible to the MEDCOM commander for medical
services in the AOR. Serves additionally as the theater
Veterinarian responsible for all Veterinary Medical matters.
.4akes sure that veterinary forces are properly deployed and
provides all policy guidance. Recommends initial assignments for
all new veterinary personnel arriving in the AOR.
