ANNEX I (NUCLEAR, BIOLOGICAL, AND CHEMICAL DEFENSE) TO VII (US)
CORPS OPLAN 19,90-2 (OP.ERATION DESERT SABER),

                          3. Locate and mark contaminated routes.

                      (b) If contamination cannot be avoided, the
preferred methods of decontamination are weathering and hasty
            decontamination.

                          1. Commanders are responsible for
establishing and conducting hasty decontamination operations for
their units. Hasty decontamination sites will be located as far
forward as possible to limit the spread of contamination.

                          2. Units will decontaminate personnel and
equipment at the lowest possible level.

                          3. Chemical units identify deliberate
decontamination sites and provide priority decontamination
support to logistical complexes, command and control elements,
            and CSICSS units.

                     (c) (U) Smoke operation priorities:

                          1. Phase I. Intensive smoke operations
training and planning for Phases II and III operations
(3AD: feint, IID(M): demonstration and breaching, 2ACR: obstacle
            gap exploitation).

                          2. Phase II. Deception smoke operations
focus on supporting 3AD's feint in order to portray the main
attack of the Corps being made in the eastern portion of the
Corps' sector. 3AD's smoke operations support the corps' demon-
stration to deceive the enemy as to the location and timing of
            the main attack.

                          3. Phase III. Smoke operations are
conducted to support 1ID(M)ls breaching operations and
penetration of ist echelon defenses. 2ACR employs smoke assets
support the exploitation of a gap in the obstacle system.

                          4. Phases IV - VI. Smoke operations
continue to decrease friendly force vulnerabilities and enemy's
            C3 and target acquisition capabilities.

                                        I-3 m
