Div. The attack was not well coordinated. The divisions
did not operate as an integrated unit, but piecemeal as
individual battalions. The attack resulted in a total
failure although resistance lasted for three days.
  5 U.S.C. 552 (b)(1) ARCENT, MARCENT, CENTCOM, and DODJIC reported a major
reassessment of the around order of battle disoosition.

The S2 still concluded at the end of this period that
the enemy would defend in place and not attack in our
               area.

               FRIENDLY SITUATIDN

On 16 Jan, the VII Corps commander provided guidance
on corps high priority targets (HPT): priority would be
fire support, ADA, C3, and maneuver. The division's
priorities were similar. The targeting cell began target
production and shifted target focus to the 25th IN DIV.
All target information concerning the 25th IN DIV was
plotted on a target overlay and prepared for further
analysis. Targeting data was then reviewed by the ALO and
CAB FSO for targetability from the air. The EW officer,
also a member of the FSE team, gave instructions to 312 MI
for orientation of collection assets on a number of EW
targeted areas of interest (TAI). Target groups developed
as the target analysts plotted all available known or
suspected enemy locations on the target overlays. The
target groups started to create a picture of the enemy
dispositions to the division's front and indicated areas
for target collection assets to concentrate.

The 4Pnd FA Bde reinfored Divarty during this period.
               It was organized with 2-29 FA (i55), 3-20 FA (155), and I-
               27 FA (MLRS).

Following the initiation of hostilities on 17 Jan,
FSE conducted face to face coordination with the corps
targeting and deep operations cells. An up-to-date target
list was also acquired, greatly enhancing the targeting
cell's effort against the Iraqi 25th and 16th Divisions.
