"Dif!" three times, but the vehicle refused to stop.
Acting in accordance with his instructions, the soldiers
locked and loaded his M16A2 and shot the tires out on the
               offending vehicle.

The driver turned out to be a Saudi gate guard, late
               for work.

Although purely coincidental, 2nd Bde, 101st Abn (AIR
ASSLT) left the Al Qaysumah airfield the next day. Vii
Corps FRAGO 93-91 relieved Ist Cav of the responsibility
to defend Al Qaysumah airfield and dropped the no
penetration line at Tapline Road. This order also
authorized lst Cav to move its screen line five kilometers
               closer to the Saudi-Iraqi border,.

The final week of January was characterized by
intense vehicle maintenance and unit training events in
preparation for the ground phase. Training events
included breaching drills, sand table exercises, mass
casualty exercises, NBC training, and company battledrill
rehearsals. As the division screen line crept
methodically forward, moving to the 08 grid line by 29
Jan, the EPW count began to rise. Five "line-crossers"
we-re captured on 27 Jan, two an 28 Jan, and three more on
               31 Jan.

In preparing for future operations, the FBE targeting
cell was tasked to put together its "best tat-get list".
This set in motion the first of many iterations of a
detailed and time consuming process to produce six to
eight "best targets". First, all targetable data entered
into the target reference book was platted on the target
overlay with the target number, target type, and target
source/acquisition date. After all the targets were
platted, they developed into the targeted areas of
interest (TAX). A more detailed analysis of the TRIs was
conducted between the FSE targeting cell and the 62 ASPS.
Target reliability was measured according to the 5U.S.C.552(b)(1)
               reliability of the sou

deciding whether or not to recommend a target for
engagement in the initial stages came down to the source,
the acquisition means, and the date of the target's
