and the remaining equipment pallatized. A significant
challenge arose due to thb fact that there were no azardous
cargo 4ualified personnel within the company. The pusher
unit provided no one for 3 days once equipment was ready to
be loaded. This caused iignificafit loss of time ih the
ready for deployment sequence. All challenges concerning
equipment were overcome %4ith hard work and initiative.
(c) Supplies - Due to the new configuration of the
detachment; it wai difficult to determine the need for
specific supplies. Two types of lists were drawn, one for
ersonnel ana-one for the mli;sion. Once these list were
grawn up, a search for the supplies was conducted. Due to
the lack- of deploying units--at Fort Lewis and the
deactivation of thi Division significant supplies Vere not
available. The wartime ordering process (9@u Code) was not
established with the loqisti8al facilities at our home
station thus inhibiting oui detachment from receiving its
roper supplies. An additional challenge arose when the
getachment-tried to fill a basic load of PLL. Since
considerable amounts of PLL had been diverted to Operation
Desert Shield/Storm, there were severe shortages of tires,
oil, generators, and miscellaneous HUMMWV spare parts.
(d) Transportation - The initial information on flight
time and place 7was inadequate. The detachment did not know
either th@ time or place of departure or arrival.
h(@) Maintenance - The only challenge posed was the
refurbis ing of seven M998s. These trucks- had been ear
marked to be turned-in and had been sitting in the motor
ool for seven months. All vehicles had to have a DS TI
@one by DS teams. These teams additionally came to the motor
ool tb help our mechanics get these vehicles ready for
Seployment. Due to the lack of spare parts and additional
HUMMWVs had to be cannibalized to get the other seven
vehicles to standard.
@f) Higher Headquarters - U on alert notification, the
9th C einical Company was in a transition period between
Brigades. Thii; aaused confusion on who exactly had the
responsibility for pushing the unit out. Furthermore, the
detachment did not know who their higher headquarters would
be in country. As a result, gro@er initial coordination
between units could not be con uc ed to ease the transition
of the detachment to the AOR.
.(g) T@ainin Due to the short alert notification,
training tor tgo-se Mos specific soldiers was hindered
because of the division requirement for them to attend
mandatory training on M16A2 qualification, NBC tasks and
chamber, and basic soldier skills. The CM/BIO training that
was received at Aberdeen had to broken down into two Thases,
due to the lack of adequate personnel to fill the a lotted
slots. This increased the deployment date by two days.
