                                               FACT SHEET
SUBJECT: Doctrinal Employment of NBC Protective Covers (NBC-PC)

             I. Description. The NBC Protective Cover (NBC-PC) is a self-extinguishing,
impermeable, multiple reinforced plastic sheeting. The NBC-PC is used to
protect equipment and supplies from liquid contamination thereby reducing the
decontamination requirement following a Chemioal-Biologioal (CB) attack.
             2. Characteristics.
                 a. The NBC-PC will protect against liquid chemical (THDI VXo TGD)T T-2
toxint and liquid agents of biological origin. The protective cover retains
Its protective characteristics for a minimum of thirty days. Howevers once
it's exposed to a liquid agent or radioactive dust particles, the cover will
prevent penetration for a minim= of 24 hours. The NBC-PC is not affected by
POL products and according to initial test results, it may actually increase
resistance to penetration if it is coated with POL products. However, POL
products cause the cover to become stiffp increasing the likelihood of
cracking and peeling of the protective layers. The NBC-PC is designed to
reduce decontamination requirements and therefore it is notp in itself,
             reusable after contamination.

                b. The NBC-PC may be:
                    (1) Written on using oo=on ink or felt tip marker to allow easy
marking and identification of contents covered or time in use.
                    (2) Be used under all battlefield conditions including dust, smoke,
aerosols rain, togv salt water spray, salt fog, and haze.
.
                c. Additional Specifications.
                    (1) Shelf-life in Storage 10 years
                    (2) weight 115 pounds to 130 pounds
                    (3) Dimensions 3OOxl2 and l4Ox2O
             3. Method of Employment.
                a. If intelligence sources indicate that the opposing force has a liquid
agent dissemination capability, erect or cover those items that are considered
to be subject to contamination. Use the NBC-PC to cover supplies, palletst
equipment etc., to provide the using unit with a readily available and
versatile contamination avoidance measure. It will also provide overhead
contamination protection for individual and crew served weapons fighting
positions and maintenance work areas. It can provide an impermeable ground
