J-1 PREVENTIVE MEDICINE
a. ISSUEs "In some redeployment locations less then irieal
conditions were achieved because of poor field sanitation, overcrowding
and exposure to heat and dehydration with lack a-F the minimal privacy---:..-
required for personal hygiene.
b. DISCUSSION: Problems with overcrowding, poor field sanitation,
and dehydration during.redeplayment greatly increase the risk of
massive outbreak of-threatening disease. Lack of comfort, exposure to
Uclean" (uncontaminated) sand or sail, and appearance have much less
medical significance...
C. RECOMMENDATION: Facilitiesg life support activities and waste
disposal should be planned well in advance and in close coordination
with the medical consultants responsible +or health care during
redeployment. In general the concerns should be field sanitation,
overcrowding, personal hygiene, provisions for rest, and appearance, in
that order a+ priority.
