     deployment strength. Battalion strength is now 765 or 100% of ALO 2.    Key
     personnel are in enclosure 3, tab B.


     21 Nov 90; The Battalion starts rail load operations for tracked and
     engineer equipment, to include equipment from the 504th and four tracks
     (M548) from the 7th Engineer Brigade. The first train to be loaded arrives
     at 0615 and the second at 1600 hrs. COL Raines and CSM Bowers (7th
     Engineer Brigade Commander and Command Sergeant Major) speak to the
     soldiers of the Battalion about the mission and what to expect in SWA.   COL
     Raines' most remembered quote for the day wag, 'Don't expect nothing and
     you won't be disappointed when Its not there'.


     22 Nov 90: The Battalion holds a traditional Thanksgiving Day Meal in the
     Battalion Dining Facility, with the Officers attending in Dress Blue
     Uniform. The VII Corps Commander, LTG Franks, and the Bamberg Community
     Commander, BG Hendrix. visited the Dining Facility.


     23 Nov 90: The first five MILVAN arrive at the Battalion and are loaded
     immediately. Additionally, M916/M92O are sent to Kaiserslautern to pick up
     five sets of bunker revetment material.



     24 Nov 90: The Battalion conducts a road convoy of 83 wheeled vehicles to
     the port at Rotterdam for shipment to SWA.    The road march is lead by the
     Battalion Executive Officer. The convoy departs 1000 hrs from Bamberg and
     travels till 0200 the next morning when it arrives at a rest and refuel
     point. It gets underway again at 0800 and arrives at port at around 1200.
     The vehicles are staged for loading and the drivers and shotguns return on
     civilian buses. arriving at Bamberg around 0800 on the 26th. The convoy
     covers 450 miles in 20 hours.  Two additional trains are loaded for
     shipment to the port, at 0800 and 1800 hours.


     25-29 Nov 90: The Battalion is given priority  on Reese range so that
     soldiers can zero and qualify with their weapons. Weapons fired are the
     M16Al, W60, M19IIA1, M203, and M3.



     26-30 Nov 90: By now a total of eight MILVAN have been loaded by the
     companies. In all 11 MILVAN and/or Sea-Land containers are received    and
     loaded.



     30 Nov 90: The Battalion receives a warning order from 7th Engineer
     Brigade. Some units are not prepared to deploy to SWA, and the 82nd
     Engineer Battalion is being accelerated to ensure that there are no empty
     aircraft. A formation is held for the entire Battalion in Mohawk Theater
     at 1600. LTC Slattery and CSM Henson talk to soldiers about preparing
     themselves mentally and spiritually to deploy to SWA.


     02 Dec 90: First elements of the Battalion depart for SWA under the control
     of the Assistant S-3, CPT Keith Samuels. All of C Company, the advance
     party of A Company, and some advance party staff, are the first to depart
     for a total of 205 soldiers. They leave from Bamberg at 100OVs, depart
     from the Nurnberg airport at 1700 hrs, and arrive at Dhahran, Saudi Arabia,
     the next morning at 0600. These are the first combat troops from the 7th
     Engineer Brigade and VII Corps to reach SWA.
