     24 Jan 91; - XO meeting at RSS. 2ACR thinks we will be here for at least
     two weeks, maybe three. Rations are still B-MRE-B. Battalion is setting up
     limited number of shower stalls. 71st LST will provide our logistical
     support from here on out. Unfortunately they are not equipped to support
     engineer equipment.


     27 Jan 91: The Battalion TOC participates in an CPX with 2ACR. The
     exercise lasts approximately 12 hours. During the exercise, word is
     received from 2ACR that chemical weapons might be used tonight (Superbowl
     Evening).    Commanders take appropriate actions. ILT Wither returns from
     LBE with Class V. First hot A meal since port more than 40 days ago. Real
     eggs for breakfast. S-4 is starting to pick up DCUS.


     28 Jan 91: 2ACR conducts AAR on exercise. S-4 manages to get more DCUS.
     Companies begin to paint their vehicles sand color.


     29 Jan 91: Units zero weapons at the desert 'Jayhawk' Range. CSM lionson
     gets two HNMWs from Brigade.


     30 Jan 91: Battalion got five   Lorans, they go to the Commander, XO, S-3,
     ALOC, and A Company. 2ACR has   already given one to C Company. S-4 is doing
     a great job procuring DCU8. Also got two companies worth of parkas (A & C),
     and enough hats for the Battalion (all the same size). HIIC graders do road
     work for RSS. S-4 picks up mosquito nets and rucksack camouflage covers. We
     have managed to acquire more desert equipment through wheeling and dealing
     than 2ACR has gotten.


     01 Feb 91: 2ACR conducts Commanders' meeting. S-4 issues sunglasses. A
     Company 1SO is involved in a accident on Tapline Road, totalling his HMMWV.


     02 Feb 91: The Battalion completes the mounting of MICLIC launchers on the
     AVLB chasssis. D Company sendg three SEE with operators to the 207th
     Military Intelligence Brigade to construct survivability positions. They
     complete the mission on 03 Feb. SFC Lechliter and four soldiers moved to
     Log Base Echo to guard our MILVANS/trailers that are to be moved there.


     03 Feb 91: 2ACR attempts to conduct recon of the covering force area and
     Sqaudi/Iraqi border berm. LTC Slattery departs early in COL Holder's HMMWV
     with four gun jeeps as escorts. He recons routes and local trafficability
     of the area. At 1100, COL Holder and 2ACR staff arrive via helicopter. A
     dust storm hits limiting visability to almost zero. A limited ground recon
     is conducted, but the remainder is cancelled.



     04 Feb 91: The 2ACR attempts the recon again with LTC Slattery leading
     the ground recon and COL Holder and staff arriving via helicopter. The
     recon party is successful closing to within a kilometer of the berm. The
     commanders return by helicopter that afternoon. The MICLIC mounted on an
     AVLB has three misfires during initail test fires. MSG Bowe,,the S3 NCOIC,
     makes some modifications, and all other fires are successful.    S-4 gets 20
     PVS-7B'g from Brigade.
